Combined with matching gifts being provided by many of the 100 sponsors the collective support could be measured in the millions of dollars when all is said and done. Lead sponsor Microsoft is offering in-kind gifts for nonprofits that raise the most during the 24-hour period and others like Kaiser Permanente, PayPal and the Sobrato Family Foundation are following suit with matching gifts. Emmett Carson, CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, said Friday it was exciting to hear that a number of companies and individuals are doing matches and that a huge number of nonprofits across the valley are taking part in the event, which marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first community foundation.
